iPhone 4S Available October 14th starting at $199

  • After the summer without iPhone, people expected a lot from “Let’s Talk iPhone” event in Cupertino on October 4th. We can argue all we want if conference meet expectations or not, but one think we know for sure – we still can dream about iPhone 5. In a meen time iPhone 4S should fulfill our daily lives.

    Hardware

    As model name implies the new iPhone 4S is a mild refresh of the original iPhone 4. New handset got a dual-core Apple A5 processor that is up to two times faster in CPU tasks and graphics. Camera is up to 8 megapixels and employs much faster sensor, f/2.4 aperture. Video is bumped to 1080p and comes with image stabilization and noise reduction. Apple claims that camera improvements resulted in 73 percent improvement in light sensitivity per pixel over iPhone 4′s unit.

    Antenas

    Notorios antenas are still on the outer side of device, but Apple claims that new “smart” software makes them much batter. As mater of a fact, iPhone 4S can switch between antennas during the conversation to deliver better call quality.

    Data

    Data speed is up to 14.4Mbps on HSPA. It is definitely batter than the iPhone 4′s 7.2Mbps and on the par with most 4G devices on the market today.

    Battery

    Despite new processor and new radios battery life is up by one hour and now at 8 hours on 3G, 6 hours of 3G browsing, 9 hours of Wi-Fi browsing, 10 hours of video, and 40 hours of music.

    iOS 5

    All new iPhones will be shipped with iOS 5 and it brings over 200 new features to iPhone 4S. The most important is the personal assistant Siri. In Apple words: “Siri. The intelligent assistant that helps you get things done. All you have to do is ask.” In demo it really looked like Suri can work, however we would have to wait until we see it in real world. Siri will be exclusively available on iPhone 4S while the rest of new features will make to other iOS 5 compatible handsets (iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPhone 4S).

    Pricing

    Pricing is new for this model as well. iPhone 4S will come in three configurations: 16GB for $199, 32GB for $299, and a new 64GB setup for $399, all on a two-year contract. iPhone will be available at AT&T, Verizon and Sprint joining some time soon. Pre-orders starts on October 7th (AT&T, Verizon only) with retail availability following on October 14th.

    iPhone 4 and 3GS

    For those how does not craver dual core high, Apple will offer iPhone 4 with 8Gb for $99 on contract (or $549 unlocked). iPhone 3GS will be free on contract on October 14th.
