iPhone 4: Bits and Pieces
-
Right after first hands on reviews of iPhone 4 were posted by Engadget.com and Walt Street Journal iFixit.com followed with in depth review of iPhone 4′s internals.
For those who have been watching closely there are no surprises in the new iPhone 4, so here some hardware bits that comprise new iPhone 4 just to recap:
- Processor:1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor
- RAM: 512Mb (as it was rumored)
- Front Panel: Gorilla Glass
- Battery: 1420mAh Li-Polymer
- Gyroscope: AGD1 3-axis (by ST Micro)
- GPS Receiver: BCM4750IUB8 single-chip by Broadcom
- Wireless: Broadcom’s BCM4329FKUBG with 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and an FM radio
- GSM/GPRS: Dual-Band Skyworks SKY77542 Tx–Rx iPAC™ FEM
- Memory: Samsung K9PFG08 Flash memory
- Touch Screen Controller: TI 343S0499
Bottom line. New design packages a lot of latest hardware in very small form factor. Fortunately new battery is easier to acces, there fore can be changed without trip to Apple store (or local electronics wizard). On down side new LCD panel with Gorilla Glass on top is glued to the glass and digitizer and seems to be irreplaceable without replacing of all those bits.
